Wear to Where: New Year’s Eve Style
12.30.11
New Year’s Eve is a special time when you get to gather with friends to celebrate the end of the year and start fresh with a new one. No matter how you celebrate, have fun with your New Year's outfit by ringing in the new year with style.
Be bold and festive -- remember it’s not just another ordinary day, so here a few tips on NEW YEARS EVEning dressing....
1. Ring in the new year with gorgeous makeup. Be sure to apply your products before getting dressed to avoid any application mishaps. Choose a makeup look that is slightly more dramatic than you would normally wear. Opt for a smokey eye with shimmer, or a dark red or berry lip color. Be sure to apply your makeup carefully, so it will last all night. Don't forget to pack your lipstick and maybe your concealer for touch-ups. It's a long night!
2. When choosing your outfit, dress up instead of wearing basic everyday wear. Wherever you are, even if it’s just you and two friends sitting on the couch, dress up like you were going out to a nice dinner, or wear a fun top with jeans. If you're going out to a party, keep in mind that many people will be dressed up. Check your invitation to make sure the party isn't formal, otherwise a cocktail dress or sequined top and slacks will be fine. The location of your New Year's event will also help determine what you wear.
3. Wear something relatively light if you’re going to be indoors, but bring a cover-up. The heat will most likely be on and if you’re going to a party, chances are quite a few other people will be there generating body heat. More clothes can always be put on, so layering your look is your best bet. The cover-up, such as a blazer, faux fur stole, or a shawl, can serve as extra warmth if you get chilled.
4. Wear multiple layers if you’re going to be outdoors. Chances are it’s going to be quite cold even with all the people around. If you wear layers, you can take a layer off if you get too hot and put it back on if you get too cold. Wear long pants and long sleeves along with scarves, hats and gloves to ensure that you are warm enough in the chilly weather.
5. Avoid wearing brand-new, never-worn shoes. Considering that New Year’s Eve is a time to start anew, you don’t want to start it out by being miserable and in pain because of sore feet and blisters. If you plan to wear new shoes, break them in ahead of time so they will be comfortable by the time New Year’s Eve arrives. If you're attending an outdoor event, make sure to wear comfortable shoes, like boots, to protect your feet if someone steps on them.
